Earmuffins

While I am vacuuming

While I am vacuuming

In her defense, she is getting much better about the loud noise issue. For the most part, she only asks for the earmuffs if she either a) has a past experience of wearing them for any given reason, or b) if we tell her something is going to be loud.

Sometimes she actually even “helps” me vacuum. Which is great and all, if I have a ton of time. The Dyson + 34 lbs of little girl is not easy to maneuver around.

Dizzy

I am ‘working from home’ (ahem) today. Bean was just spinning herself around in the office. She starts singing:

“You’re making me dizzy – my head is spinning. Like a whirlpool it never ends. And it’s you girl making spin”

Over and over until she fell down.

Apparently her sitter taught her that one. Much more age appropriate than the app1e bottom je@ns song I managed to teach her. I have been listening to more kid friendly songs in the car. She also knows most of the words to Yellow Submarine and various They Might Be Giants songs.

What she chose

We took her to Applebee’s for dinner (the chain restaurant that gets bonus points for having veggie burgers and great salads).  where she chose pasta with red sauce and applesauce.  A very saucy meal.  H ordered a burger that came with bacon, which he does not eat, but he had them put it on the side for Bean.  When the waiter put it down, she practically screamed “OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH BACON!”  It was too Funny I am thinking she might not be following in her vegetarian Mommy and Daddy’s footsteps.  The kid loves bacon.

Then it was off to Toys for Us, and she immediately started asking about the play make up kit.  She saw it in a flyer around Christmas time, and had been talking about it all through the process of her learning to stay dry overnight.  I figured she would beeline to it and that would be it.  We found it, but asked her if she wanted to look around some more which she did.  She was so cute, slowly strolling up and down the aisles, pausing periodically if something caught her eye.  In the end though, she chose a FP van that her doll house figures fit in.  She already has one, a hand me down that is missing one door, but also has little velcro seatbelts for the passengers.  The new van came with a dog, has all of its doors, but no working seatbelts.  I know why, they are too difficult for 3 year olds to work, so every five seconds the parents of said three year olds are being asked to get the family back in their seatbelts.  I bet that many parents called FP and asked them to change the design.  I thought the lack of working seatbelts would bother her, but it does not.  She is so cute with her little doll house play.  Family comes to visit and they have to take two cars to town to eat dinner out, she parks them next to each other before she goes to bed.

And, she is still managing to get up and go when necessary overnight.  A couple of times she has even gone by herself and gotten back into bed.  Go Bean!

One and only 2008 horse show

My horse was very, very naughty.  Bucking and carrying on like nobodies business.  In his defense, a cold front came through, adding to the energy pot.  The day before the show he schooled like a rock star.  Probably should have gone home then!
A moment of calm

A moment of calm

Just a few short years ago his antics would have set my nerves on edge (not his fault – my previous horse made several attempts on my life – setting me back quite a bit with my confidence).  This year I was able to just ride on.  I even smiled at the end of the first test.  Right before I apologized to the judge for all the noise.  Seriously, he did not shut up for practically the entire test.  Regardless, we have come a long way little gray horse.

We survived

We survived

Our second test went much, much smoother.  He was still wound tight, but there were no airs above the ground, nor incessant screaming to his stable mate.  I was a little disappointed that I did not even get one point higher on the second test, but things felt so much better I feel we were successful.  He is such a handsome guy, he really cleans up well.

That face

Although, if you asked him, I bet he thinks he looks better like this:

She did it

We set a goal of seven consecutive dry nights.  Last night made seven.  Tonight will be dinner out and a trip to toys for us to pick out a present.

I think I had a harder time with her set backs than she did.  She was upset, but let it go easily, and handled the blank spots on the calendar without a problem.  Several times I entertained the thought that 5 days would be enough, but decided that we had set a goal, and it was more important to teach her to keep trying.  In the end, she is proud of herself.  As she should be.  And I am very, very proud too.  Way to go Beaner.

Oh boy…

Bean is running around telling anyone who will listen that she is going to be a dark brown dog with a tan belly for Halloween.  Sounds cute, huh?  Well, the kicker is that the is also telling everyone that Mom is going to make her costume.

This ought to be really interesting – I have never put a zipper in anything before, nor made any piece of clothing that has legs, never mind a hood.  I better get cracking.  The first step will be to find a pattern that does not require zippers (speaking of that, I have also never used a pattern).  The second step will be to get my horse’s blankets off the sewing machine, where they have sat since their return from the laundromat in May.  Third step will be to sharpen up the good ole seam ripper.

Well, I have wanted to expand my sewing horizons, no time like the present!

3 years and 4 days ago….

We saw this precious little face for the first time

Baby Girl

Baby Girl

She still makes this face

She still makes this faceAnd this face too

We were told that she is a good eater and introverted.  These descriptions hold true today.  I can also add that she is the best thing since sliced bread.
