Smile

The horse has been having some issues with one of the other geldings in the herd.  The same one he was giving the runaround earlier in the year.  Something changed, and now the new horse is literally giving him the runaround, and around, and around.  It has gotten so bad they have been separated.  It is causing me an enormous amount of stress.  My horse is agile and really quick, the other horse is not.  So that is his saving grace right now.  The horse is usually my stress relief, but right now I am worried about his safety, the rising cost of everything – including hay/grain/board/farrier/vet.

Then I get this photo from the barn owner

Say Cheese

And I realize that he just makes me so happy, every little thing is worth it.  Nothing like 1000lbs of dorkiness to lighten any mood.

“Reading”

Bean brought ‘Peter Rabbit’ with her in the car this AM on the way to school.  She is going right along, reading the book from memory.  When she gets to the part where Mr. McGreggor sees Peter and starts to yell at him, she says “Get out of my garden you LEAF!!”

Tee-Hee-Hee. The joys of reading from memory.

Wow

Our local Chinese association set up donation stations today at three of our company’s local facilities.  In just over one hour they raised $7000 for the earthquake victims.  I am amazed at the generosity, and admittedly proud to be a member of this group.  I feel blessed to be able to work with such generous people for a company that supports these efforts.  I am assuming that the Corporation’s foundation will match funds.  I know the request has been submitted, fingers crossed that it passes.

Tomorrow I must remember my checkbook!

Update 5/23 – $25K from the local employees, $50K from the Company’s Foundation, total of $250K world wide.  Awesome.  I learned that we have a plant in Chengdu, which was spared and all employees are safe.  I imagine their families have been impacted though.  The product they make is critical to the recovery/rebuilding efforts – amazingly enough they were back in production the next day doing what they can to support the efforts.  Amazing.

Mother’s Day

It is my third mother’s day, and I still get all weepy. I am just so happy to be a mom it is overwhelming at times. I feel as if I have grown on a personal level so much since Bean came home. It sounds hokey, but I am stronger and more at peace with things. Not that there are not those ‘what now?!?’ moments, but my confidence has soared, not only with regards to parenting, but with every aspect of my life. I have more patience with everything and everyone, not just my child and husband. I understand what mothers mean when they say that their child makes them a better person. I am living it every day, and am more grateful than I have ever been – all because of my Bean.

Wednesday was ‘Mother’s Day Tea’ at preschool. It was a wonderful morning. There were corsages, photo ops, being served tea (without a drop spilled by any of the little ones!), sandwiches (on bright pink and blue bread!!) and muffins and cookies made by all the children. Then we were treated to performances, and the party ended with some dancing. I could not have planned a more perfect party if I tried.

Real tablecloths and all

Each year since Bean came home we have planted something for her Chinese family. This morning we went to Home Depot and picked out a lovely ground cover that we will plant this afternoon. I do not know if she will have questions, she did not last year, so we will have to see.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms.

Photography

Bean has one of thos FP digital cameras.  She takes pictures more than we do.  The problem is that she takes a bunch, fills up the little card, then deletes them all and starts over.  I need to either a) get the photos off of the camera faster, or b) get her more interested in seeing her pictures on the computer, so she tells me when it is full.  She never wants to do that, and I kind of understand.  Most of them are blurry photos of the cats:

Rodney, looking less than thrilled to have the pink plastic flash maker shoved in his face:

Doug – this is an incredibly accurate representation of him.  He is one of those long hair cats that always looks fuzzy around the edges, because some of his hairs grow 2″ longer than the rest:

And me + some toys (and Ella’s bum).  This might just be one of the best photos taken of me.  Ever.
